wanted essay

Wanted is a film about A frustrated office worker that learns he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father's superhuman killing abilities, the staring role is played by James McAvoy, the director is timur bekmambetov and this action, crime thriller had a budget of $75,000,000 and in the first opening weekend brought in $50,927,085 and reached a gross of $134,294,280. The film is opened with writing giving the basic details into what the film will be about, talking of the ferternatiy that arose thousands of years ago, it was a clan of assasins with super human killing abilities designed to kill people that deserved to die. The first camera shot is of a camera panning across an office building showing it is someones birthday and with the main charachter wesley speaking in a narrative voice over explaing it is his bosses birthday. The opening of this film follows his life and is showing how he begins to care about nothing in his life, This is shown by him being treated badly by everyone and his best friend getting with his girlfriend, the dull voiceover specifically put in place to show his mood is used to emphasise the position he is in. The voice over continues to explain how his dad left him when he was 7 days old, because of this event he sees himself as a failure of a person. The camera in this opening is used very smartly using pans and a range of different camera angles ranging from wide angles and establishing shots to the close ups, these wide angles establish the setting in the first intinces of the film and the close ups are used for the charachter build up in these opening phases introducing the main charachter. The editing in the first couple of scenes begins with basic invisible editing but as we work on towards the centre of the film many special effects are used very effectively to give the full effect of realisim in an unrealistic film. The sounds in this film are very important they use alot of non digetic music in the intro to express the mans anxiety attacks, the opening also heavily uses voiceovers to not only to explain the film but to emphasise the main actor james mcavoy playing the part of wesley in his current situations in life. The mise en scene throughout the first few scenes is out standing with many props from douhnuts from his fat boss to the weapons of the assasins, the clothing and costumes are very effective with a setting that allows the viewer to feel part of the film due to the realisim within the scenes.
