research into similar media and texts

Action thriller, this is two genres within a film, our film would be based around these two genres and seeing as they are often closely used within the film industry it would make the perfect genre for our film with action films based around a hero that faces a series of challenges that will often require physical feats, extended fights and frantic chases and with thriller basing its self on its extreme elements of suspense, tension and excitement this would create a very exiting film if directed and filmed in the right way. While action films have traditionally been aimed at male audiences from the early teens to the mid-30s, many action filmmakers from the 1990s and 2000s added female characters in response to the expanding social conceptions of gender. Our film will not have a female character of high status or heroicness, this means we have narrowed our target audience again from the teens to the 30s of both male and female to just male.

The genre we picked is a very competitive area with so many new media technologies and the effects on films these days it will be a struggle to stand up to many action films. With films such as Jarhead making a loss in gross profit of around 7 and a half million dollars it is very clear it is a hard market to win in, but films such as Wanted making a 59 million dollar profit if you do get it right, it can be very very good.

To research into the viewers of these films i have found some tables of cinema views, showing age, gender and class, this is done by surveys and allows us to see what kind of films are prefered by who, at what age or gender and potentially why.

firstly i have Jar head.
This table has shown me that this action film is male dominated in cinema views, it has had the most views by 45+ which is suprising as action is generally aimed at 15-24 year olds but it is only a 2% decrease from 45+ showing that there was still a large number of people viewing this film from this age group this is common in action films as they are generally more enjoyed by the male population.

This table is showing the results for the film wanted
Wanted here has shown the common trends of a action film, the same genre we are aiming at, it shows that the film views were mainly male dominated with 65% views to males, and a huge 47% of viewers were from the ages 15-24, the film was rated as 18 so this shows ratings from 18-24 year  olds 47% were in this boundary. These figueres show that the genre of action has moulded itself around there audience.
